Dec 4, 2009: UPDATES - slow but we are busy.
I was listening to John Tesh the other day and he was reading a report about Americans
being more charitable in the past few months. The report stated this was so based on
volunteering being up. Sorry John but the report didn't take into account that
unemployment is waaaay up and there are more people with time to volunteer. I can
speak from experience and from chatting, emailing and speaking with missionaries all
over the world, charitable contributions are waaaay down. It is to be expected in our
economy. We have cut back to just paying people we employ. We have yet to make a
trip to Haiti this year as we just can't afford it. Fortunately, we could see it coming so we
put away some funds to keep us through these times. We will succeed or fail at the hand
of Yahweh so we are not worried!
Wristbands for the kids. They loved them!
Teaching children about missions is part of a missionaries life.
Can you begin at too early an age to teach children about missions? Ask these 4 year olds if
that is true. They had a wonderful time learning about what missionaries do and where they do
it. The mission was so successful, Bev has been invited to speak at other day cares across the
county. Who knows, maybe she can capture the heart of some of these young children and they
will seek the calling to become a missionary. What more could a missionary ask?
The kids really enjoyed the Haiti scrapbook!

July 25, 2009:
So, what have we been up to? The economy in Florida has tanked. I
(Chris) was laid off from my place of employment of almost 10 years. My
days are now spent looking for work and helping my friend, John Dale, with
his car washes. Bev is working in day care because of her heart for
children - she cannot stay away! This past Friday, July 24, she spent part
of her day teaching children about missionaries. The children were very
excited to learn about other children in the poor countries of the world.

Another Giant Has Passed.
Brother Drinkard was a giant of a man in our eyes. He was always surrounded by the
ladies of the church who wanted to hug him. They were his "girlfriends" and we are
proud to say, Bev was one of them. He loved to hug them all and his smile and laugh are
indelibly ingrained in our souls.
There is a story that makes me laugh - even now as I type this. We used to beeline to
Brother Drinkard when we walked in the church. My main goal was to make him laugh
just to hear it. One week it was announced that the church would be serious in the early
part of the morning before church started - we were to reverence that time - no talking,
just praying. The next week, I did my usual routine and beelined for my dose of the most
wonderful laugh on the planet. As usual, I made him bust out laughing. The serious
persons who didn't think what we were doing was proper, shot us a look. Brother
Drinkard shot me a look like a 5 year old who just got caught with his hand in the cookie
jar. I looked at him and said, "don't worry about them, God is laughing with us" which
made him laugh all the more and infuriated the starchy crowd. I think the Savior was
pretty clear about praying in front of crowds. The starchy crowd got their reward and we,
the Father and I, received ours!
We miss his laugh in our ears these days but it is with us for the remembrance for all
time until we meet again.

More Of What I Have Been Up To.
I have been helping friends of ours, the Dales, build onto their new house.
Have you ever seen a fire pole in a house? Now you have! See it here.
