Sleeping Giant
Which is the sleeping giant? To Chippy, Chris must seem like a giant. Look at their size
difference. In his lap, Chippy seems so small yet I submit to you, he is the sleeping giant.
Chippy was born, near as we can tell, July 2, 2006 with no hope. He was wrapped in a
dirty towel and dropped, maybe even thrown, at a gate of a friend. Possibly the product of
a witch doctor, he was doomed from the start. All too often, babies born to witch doctors
are born for a sacrifice to the devils that these voodoo doctors worship. He was
dehydrated, had thrush, diarrhea, and was not too far from death.
I was called into a special meeting with men I knew and one I did not. It was then I was
introduced to the towel with the precious gift wrapped inside. A baby in a manger?
Maybe not a savior but a bundle of potential. I was asked if I would accept the baby in that
towel to raise as my own, to take care of him and nurse him back to health. Was this
something I wanted to do? It is the reason we are here. It is the reason for my future
existence. Yes, yes, YES! As we say on our web site, if we could save but one!
Christopher, as I named him, is my little chocolate chip. I called him this as he is so
sweet. I internet messaged Chris and told him about Christopher and he was so excited.
Chris calls him Chippy for short and it has stuck with most everyone except the nannies.
Chippy’s future is still unknown with this exception; he as a future and a hope. Daily we
dedicate him to GOD and pray that his life will make a difference for the future of Haiti. He
is marked on his belly with a birth mark. I was told he is marked and I may not want him
(a Haitian superstition). I told the people who were listening to this revelation that “yes, he
is marked by GOD!” Everyone erupted in cheers. Yes, he is a miracle and GOD works
wonders with the most simple of things.
Chippy is doing well these days. He is a pleasure to all who hold him. Please agree with
us in prayer that his potential to be a great force for GOD in Haiti will be realized.
